Tutor Profile – Grant Walmsley
Grant Walmsley, cofounder of the Screaming Jets, is a familiar face in the music industry and is quickly becoming a familiar face at Atwea as a senior trainer in Atwea College’s Diploma of Music Industry.
Grant is part of a team of local music industry professionals who are highly experienced and passionate about teaching practical skills and establishing direct links with working musicians and industry contacts.
“I am passionate about investing in local talent and providing ways for local people to work in their vocation here in the Hunter. This course provides the right mix of skills, training and education,” Grant said.
A stalwart of the music sector and well known as a professional musician, he is an accomplished songwriter and producer who, after leaving the Screaming Jets, continued to write and produce music and formed Agents of Peace while also teaching music at TAFE NSW in the Hunter. He has transformed into GW Freebird and continues to write and produce while working across the community to encourage and support local artists. Most recently he was appointed to the Newcastle Live Music Taskforce alongside State Member Tim Crakanthorp and Lord Mayor Nuatali Nelmes, as well as select leading music industry professionals.
“This is an exciting opportunity for local musicians. This course will help musicians understand the business of the music industry and provide them with hands-on experience from trainers and educators like me who have worked in the industry for decades,” he said.
